Q. Can you get squeaks out of floors?
A. Yes. Most generally, on a sub floor of plywood, 9 out of 10 times a "squeak" or "pops" can be eliminated. It is necessary to pull back the carpet and pad to get to the sub floor so either wood screws or nails can be driven into the floor joists. In some cases, the "squeak" might be something different causing the problem. It is not uncommon to have these "squeaks" as a home ages, due to the wood curing or home settling.

A TRUE And Funny Story

About 10 years ago I was doing close to 15 floor squeak repairs a week.
This went on for about 4 months!
Why ?
Because the national builder who shall remain nameless, was in such a hurry to sell the homes. They'd build dozens of homes, put in the floors (particle board) then go back 3-4 days later and put the sheathing on the roofs. If it rained........WHICH IT DID, the floors got soaked. I don't know how they got away with it but the floors were nailed instead of screwed down. Roughly after 3 months in a new home the floors sounded like a fun house!

Anyway, I was at a house in Westminster tearing up a beautiful and way expensive white carpet to get to the squeaks. The woman owner was about in tears as she watched me cut open the seams. I had fixed about 5 squeaks and had 1 last one to fix. She came over and asked me to re-seam the carpet and stretch it back in without fixing the last squeak. It's her house and she is the boss, but I just had to ask why. Well, as she started laughing she told me she had 2 teenage girls that were sneaking out at night. The last squeak was in front of one of the girl's bedroom door. Oh yeah, the door was directly over the master bedroom.

I think I would of had a BIGGER LOCK INSTALLED!
